She started feeling a lot of pain again this Sat. Her physiotherapist told Neelima, “If she is in so much pain, she needs to go to doctor. Don’t delay much, you should take her on Monday, as today and tomorrow, her Doctor will not be available.”

On Sunday night, Neelima’s mother started saying that the pain reduced. No hurry to go to Doctor, but still she wanted Doctor to check her once. So, she asked her to book an appointment for Wednesday, as Mondays and Tuesdays are Neelima’s hectic days at work. And her mother knew it pretty well.

Neelima was working from home that Tuesday. The physiotherapist came at 1:30 PM, asked her, while entering the house “How is her pain now?”

“It reduced to a good extent, she didn’t scream last night, I will take her to Doctor tomorrow.”

“That’s great news. If pain is reduced, you can even skip going to Doctor, you can plan for the pre decided schedule, i.e. next week.”, he advised.

“But, Mummy wants Doctor to see her once this week also, so I will take her tomorrow”

“OK”, he nodded.

Once he started the knee exercise of Mummy, Neelima got back to work, shut the door of her room, so as not to get any disturbance. Soon, she was so engrossed in work, that she didn’t hear the knock at the door. She noticed only when there was loud and continuous knocking at the door. Opening the door, she saw the attendant of her mother looked fearful; she rushed to Mummy’s room, to find her in unconscious state. She was terrified. “Mummym Mummy…”, she called out loud.

“What happened to her, just a few min back, she was fine”, she yelled, shaking her mother, didn’t realize, tears were flowing down her cheeks.

Physiotherapist was checking her pulse, attendant was rubbing her feet.

Mummy opened eyes, saw Neelima, “I am not feeling good, something is happening, I will not survive now”, she was half conscious, and then unconscious again.

She heard her mother’s gasp. Then nothing more. Suddenly, she felt very empty.

Physiotherapist asked attendant to open all the windows and the door of balcony, quickly gave her Sorbitrate. By that time, her husband has already called three-four hospitals to provide Ambulance, but it would take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours for the ambulance to reach them. Meanwhile physiotherapist and attendant were trying to do, whatever they could at that time, as a first-aid.

Her husband firmly said, “We can’t wait for Ambulance, let’s take her to emergency ourselves.”

As she could not walk, because of her knee surgery, they made her to sit on a chair, and carried the chair till car.

“Mummy, please open your eyes, please say something, look at me… “, she was terrified, looking at her mother lying motionless, breathless on the chair.

Physiotherapist shrieked, “Give her mouth to mouth”.

Neelima didn’t know, how to do that, but she did. She kept doing that with breaks to catch her own breath. The streams of tears from her eyes were flowing continuously without any break.

They were waiting outside the Emergency, trying to console Neelima, “Everything will be alright, don’t worry.”

Sometimes your heart needs more time to accept what your mind already knows.

The Doctor came out of Emergency only to tell her,” She is brain dead, if you want, I can make her heart working, but brain will not work again, she will be like a vegetable. You decide, and let me know, what do you want, but please be fast. Otherwise, nothing could be possible.”

Despite being a daughter, Neelima chose not to make her heart work again, “No Doctor, I don’t want this for her.” and she sobbed.

She was undergoing through the experience of trauma, mental agony, and mental stress.

Mother… mother is like no other. Losing a mother means, losing everything. At this point of age, even when Neelima was having kids of her own, for every problem, for every concern, she would go to her mother, to discuss things, to take advice. And she knew that her mother had magical powers to always take her out safely from any problem.

She lost her mummy, no matter how much her Husband tried to make her happy, there is some hollow inside her, which can’t be filled up. She felt torn apart, she knew, when she cries, her husband feels sad, she stopped crying in front of him, but her heart cries all the time.

“She lost her life, even when she was with me, and I couldn’t do anything. And I know, I am responsible for that. Now I am realizing, how hard was it for her to hide her pain, when she told me Sunday night, that it is not much now.” Neelima was overwhelmed by grief and guilt.

“It was hard to believe that I lost her forever. She came to my place for knee surgery only. It was my responsibility to make her fit and let her stand on her feet before she leaves me, but I failed, I failed... She was my mother, my entire being. How could I not take care of her.”

She was experiencing immense pain of parting and she didn’t know how this pain will go away. There is nothing that can take this pain away.

People say, ‘Time heals everything’, but no, time can never heal the loss of a mother. Emotional pains don’t heal. Unfortunately, no medicine, no doctor can heal these.

Sometimes, she doesn’t realize and the tears stream down her face then she forces them to stop, and binds them to edges of her eyes by the strong power of control over herself, as consolation never was something that she needed from someone.

But her heart still searches for her Mummy. As her phone rings, a part of her hopes her mother is at other end. Her heart pounds. It's been too long since they have talked to each other. Her eyes always seem to be looking for her mother.

She is disturbed, no end.

With countless sleepless nights, she realized that life is under no obligation to give us what we expect.
