Rajeev was upset that his father was not responding to his tantrums, which is very unusual of him. He wanted a game and his father refused to buy it but put a condition that he should get at least 3rd rank in his monthly exams in order to deserve the game. His father made it clear that his son’s wishes will not be fulfilled until he earns them through his performance in studies. His parents have been thinking about their son’s attitude of complacency and expectation to get his wishes fulfilled easily. As he was growing up, they thought it is time to discipline him and make his focus on studies.

Rajeev continued to create ruckus having locked himself in a room and was pretending to cry loudly. His parents were continuing with their activities , knowing that it was a sham. After a while Rajeev got tired of his own drama and was not knowing how to get out of this embarrassment. He sensed some movement close by and opened his eyes. To his amazement he found a fairy sitting on the chair next to him. She was exactly like the one he read in fairy tales. Beautiful looking, with splendid clothes and long tresses. He was fascinated and asked her who she was. She smiled and replied ,” I am a friendly fairy who helps children like him in getting their wishes fulfilled. My name is Maya.” Rajeev shared his wish for a game and also commented on the unusual behaviour of his dad. Maya said,” Look Rajiv, all I can do is only to help you with fulfilling your father’s expectation so that he could buy the game for you. I cannot buy you the game myself. My presence should be kept a secret and if you agree we will start on the task.” Rajeev got interested and agreed for her proposal.

Since then, every morning he would rush to school without any prompting by his parents. He would come back and complete his home works by himself and surprised his parents by totally getting immersed in studies. Maya was helping him with his studies by reminding him about timings and clearing his doubts and so on.

The results of monthly tests came and Rajiv proudly showed his report to his parents. He got a second rank and missed the 1st rank by mere 5 marks. His parents were elated and offered to buy him the game right away. But Rajeev refused humbly and said,” I am big now to be playing those games. I need to focus on studies and work hard to become successful in life. Thank you, dad, for making me realize this.”

Rajeev shared the results with Maya and both were happy. Maya bid good bye to Rajiv who was shocked to accept this. Maya explained to him that fairies are not supposed to have a long-term association with human beings. They can help people whenever situation demanded and should exit without people even knowing about the involvement of fairies. She made an exception in this instance and was in trouble as the elders at the fairy land took a strong objection to this and would take serious action against her if she did not leave Rajeev, that day itself. She was worried as to what could be in store for her.

“Rajeev you are now a responsible person and have understood your priorities and goals. You no longer need any help. You have demonstrated that hard work succeeds. I wish you good luck in everything you do. Good bye,” so saying Maya disappeared.

Children, the moral of the story is to know when to give up taking advantage of your parents emotions .Their love towards you is unconditional and unlimited. Understand it and don’t take undue advantage of it. In real life fairies may not exist. You have to be your own fairy guiding yourself and protecting your selves from bad influences Remember ,no pain, no gain. Hard work pays.
