Title: A Lesson for the Woodcutter

Once upon a time, in a village called Dahiwali, there lived a woodcutter named Sameer. He lived with his wife Sunita and his son Rahul. Rahul was a very smart and kind boy. Rahul and his mother did not like Sameer’s job because he cut down trees. Whenever he cut a tree, many birds lost their homes. Nests that had been built over many years were destroyed.

One day, Rahul decided to talk to his father.

“Dad, you should stop cutting trees,” Rahul said gently. “When you cut them, poor birds become homeless.”

Sameer became angry. “Don’t tell me what is right or wrong. This is my job, and I love it!” he said, and walked away.

Rahul felt sad, but he didn’t give up. He made a plan and told his mother about it.

“Are you sure your plan will work?” Sunita asked.

Rahul smiled and said, “Yes, Mom. It will work.”

The next morning, as Sameer was leaving for work, he saw an envelope lying on the doormat. He picked it up and opened it. Inside was a letter. It said:

“You must leave your house as soon as possible. The government is going to build a mall in this area. All surrounding houses are already cleared except yours. Leave immediately.”

Sameer was shocked and worried. He rushed inside.

“Sunita! Come fast! This is a serious matter!” he shouted.

Sunita came, and Sameer told her everything. But instead of looking worried, Sunita smiled.

“Why are you smiling at such a serious time?” Sameer asked.

Just then, Rahul came from behind and said softly, “Dad, you got a notice before losing your house. But think about the poor birds — they don’t get any notice when you cut their trees. They lose their homes suddenly.”

Sameer looked at Rahul in surprise.

Rahul continued, “I’m sorry, Dad. That letter was fake. I made it to help you understand how the birds feel.”

Rahul handed his father the axe and said, “Please stop this, Dad.”

Sameer felt ashamed. He realized he had been hurting innocent birds and destroying nature. Tears filled his eyes. He smiled at Rahul, took the axe, and threw it into the river.

From that day on, Sameer stopped cutting trees. Instead, he planted many new plants in the village and near his house. Slowly, birds returned and built their nests again.

Sameer had learned his lesson — trees are not just wood, they are homes for many living creatures.

Moral: Save trees, save life. Every tree is a home.
