Happiness Resented

They made no bones of their relationship. But others found them strange. Two men in love, unafraid to let the world know, that it was nothing abnormal.  

They were in search of accommodation. When asked about their relationship, "Gay" they said. House owners didn't even entertain their request, shooing them away with disgust written on their faces.

House to the house they met with the same fate, as though they were untouchables. One day they came across an advertisement from an old lady living by herself, wanting paying guests.

On being told of their status, the lady never batted an eyelid and said without hesitation "you are welcome to live with me, it doesn't matter if you are gay or straight. I've seen so much fake love between normal people, now at least I can comfort myself that here's genuine love, I would not trade with those who parade as loving couples. 

The gay couple found in her a compassionate mother, and companion. Their biological mothers had long abandoned them.
