“I hate you, so much.”

“That’s the second time this month you have said that to me. I wonder why that is.”

“Shut up.”

Jamie and his twin brother, Gavin are having a bad day. They had gone to their local park in hopes of finding an old record box they may use as some sort of game plan. Unfortunately, all they found were two bored kids throwing rocks at each other and one overly enthusiastic toddler attempting to catch every single stone. At some point they must have wandered off somewhere else, because when Jamie checked he didn’t see them anywhere nearby.

So he was about to give up until they finally ran into each other again. They were standing in the middle of the large field of grass that surrounded the park, just talking.

“How are you feeling?” He heard the other ask.

Gavin shrugged, “Okay.” His voice was muffled from being shoved by his hoodie, which he pulled on top of his head, blocking out the bright sunlight.

He could feel the other stare at him for a while before saying, “We should get going.” Jamie didn’t really understand why that sounded like such a bad idea but decided not to argue as he followed Gavin back to where his car was parked.

It had started to rain around 2 o’clock. When the three boys arrived home it began to pour. Jamie sat with Gavin and his brother, waiting for the storm to clear. They watched cartoons for the rest of the afternoon, trying to distract themselves and avoid another unpleasant conversation. Gavin eventually fell asleep after finishing his third episode. After making sure he had enough blankets over his brother, Jamie went to go change into dry clothes and check on how dinner was cooking. It wasn't too far away from the time he would normally be getting ready for bed, so he assumed the food was nearly done.

He returned to find his brother sitting on the couch, watching TV while eating pizza. The tv looked unfamiliar to him.

"Do you know where we're supposed to keep the remote?" Jamie asked, looking at his brother curiously.

Gavin gave him a look before turning back towards the TV. "What do you think? It's on the side table there."

Jamie walked over to the side table and noticed that indeed the TV was on the left. He tried to turn it on but nothing happened. He looked at the TV for a little longer before walking over to his closet and pulling open the door. Sure enough his remote lay right next to his pyjama pants.

After putting it under his pillow so Gavin wouldn't notice, he grabbed a pair of shorts and a shirt out of his drawer, leaving his glasses behind. He climbed into bed and laid down. Just as he closed his eyes, the sound of thunder rolled across the sky. He quickly threw the covers back onto the bed and hurriedly got dressed as fast as possible. As he stepped outside he saw that the storm had come and gone. He was thankful for that. If the weather was worse than it already was he wouldn't even try to drive home.

As he made his way across the street toward his car, he stopped to take one last look at the house. Everything looked fine; no lights or sirens had sounded yet. Maybe they weren't home yet. He didn't bother to call to let them know.

As soon as the front door shut behind him, Gavin was running around the room, frantically searching for something. Jamie stood near the doorway watching him, amused.

His brother spotted what he was looking for moments later, and rushed over to grab hold of it. He then proceeded to rush over to the television, where his brother still stood, watching him.

“Did you turn it on?” Gavin shouted in his ear as he held the remote tightly in both hands. “Yeah, I turned it on.” He responded as he continued to watch Gavin. “You don’t have any batteries though.”

Gavin shook his head violently, causing his hood to fall from his forehead. “No, not batteries!”

Before Jamie could respond, he suddenly pushed the TV onto its side, knocking the TV stand to the ground. A loud clap of thunder was heard and a flash of lightning lit up the sky.

Gavin was looking at the tv with wide eyes and his jaw hung open.

"Shit." He whispered quietly.

Jamie felt a chill run through him. He took a step forward but was unable to continue as Gavin moved back away from him.

"Are you okay, Gav?" Jamie asked cautiously.

Another round of thunder echoed through the room. Gavin shook his head once more, fear evident in his eyes.

"Oh my God. You're scared."

Gavin nodded. “I’m not scared. I can handle this.” He replied with conviction. “I’m fine. We have to fix this.”

"Fix what?"

Gavin ignored him as he picked up the broken remote and started walking into the hall.

"What are you doing?" Jamie asked, following him.

"We need a new TV!" Gavin exclaimed. "And a new outlet."

Gavin's mind raced a mile a minute as he walked towards the kitchen.

"Wait," Jamie called out. "Where are you going?"

"To grab some things!"

"From where? There's nothing in the house to replace the TV!"

"Don't worry about that! I'll find something."

Jamie sighed deeply and rubbed his face in frustration. He couldn't seem to stop thinking about it. Something told him he should follow Gavin, but what if he got hurt? What if he needed help? What if…

"Come on, Jamie! Let's go!" Gavin interrupted his thoughts.

Jamie took a deep breath and followed his brother. He wanted to trust Gavin, but he couldn't shake the strange feeling he had gotten whenever Gavin was involved with anything that could potentially cause harm to someone.

When they entered the kitchen, Gavin began opening cabinets and drawers, tossing random items onto the counter. He seemed very focused on whatever he was doing, so Jamie decided it was best to leave him alone. Instead, he made his way over to the sink, turned the faucet, and splashed water onto his face. Once he dried his face off he decided to make himself a cup of coffee. He opened the cupboard above the sink and was disappointed to see that there wasn't any.

"Damn it."

He slammed the cabinet door and walked over to the stove to prepare himself some tea. While he waited for his kettle to boil, he heard Gavin shout from the living room.

"Jamie!"

"What?" Jamie yelled.

"Can you help me?"

"What are you doing?"

"Just come over here!"

Jamie rolled his eyes and set his mug down on the countertop before heading over to the living room. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw that Gavin hadn't moved from where he had left him. In fact, Gavin looked terrified. As Jamie asked him he was turned into a statue. Jamie felt strange and drove back his car to his home. This left him terrified and couldn't believe it. His mother called him and asked about Gavin. There was no reply. As she entered Jamie's room he vanished completely. The house they went to was haunted by someone's spirit. The entire family was trapped in the ghostly events.
