AN ORPHAN WITH 'DISSOSIATIVE PERSONALITY DISORDER'

"HELP...PLEASE HELP...SAVE ME!", screamed an orphan in the woods when she was mercilessly being sexually assaulted by the perpetrator who was none other than her favourite uncle. As he always used to buy Suzain chocolates, make her laugh, and play with her, he became her comfort zone as well as the one she could blindly trust on. However, during a summer night, he lured her by promising that they will have ice-creams together. The innocent child got excited and sat on the passenger's seat beside her uncle. The car was being driven towards the woods which Suzain had no clue about. Mentioning that the car had broken down, her uncle got out of the car and asked her to get down too. Out of nowhere, that man forcefully started removing her clothes against her consent, in addition to it, he began brutally touching her private parts. Relentlessly tolerating pain, the helpless child could only cry for help but no one was around. Suzain fainted in utter anxiety and pain. 

The next morning, when a random commotion woke her up, she found herself around kids. When informed by a child, she came to know that it was her new place to live and an orphanage! Dreadful from what had happened last night and perplexed regarding the place where she was, Suzain was still shivering. Unable to figure out what exactly happened, she was in a dilemma whether to love and trust her uncle as before or not, even as the child was too young to understand that she was sexually abused! Despite that, she had a strong feeling that it made her feel atrociously awful. 

Years passed by, and a happy, innocent child turned into an anxious, passive, guilty and depressed young girl as she had realized that she had been harassed and physically abused by the most trustworthy person in her life. Being the first day of high school, she came across many new students with whom when she interacted for the first time mentioning herself as Liza with sheer enthusiasm. One of her old friends was startled listening to it, as she had never witnessed Suzain in such a thrill. In the days ahead, to a few, she was Suzain, an introverted, anxious girl whereas, to the rest-Liza, the outgoing and a joyful personality! Since people started noticing this weird behaviour of hers, they told her about it. But poor Suzain couldn't recall anything as such. During the transition from her core identity (Suzain) to her alter identity(Liza), she was observed to be violent and restless. She figured out that whenever she recalls that night of her abuse, she undergoes unbearable emotional stress and what happens later remains unknown to her. As the time elapsed, the transformations became more and more intense, moreover, people started witnessing her alteration of personality. Suzain was taken to the counsellor of the high school. After deeply analyzing her friends' observations and counselling her, the counsellor concluded that Suzain was undergoing 'DISSOSIATIVE PERSONALITY DISORDER', a mental health condition where people have two or more separate personalities. DID causes gaps in memory and other problems. Suzain only knew that she turned wild after every episode of her tragedy, but was clueless about the Liza thing that people told her.

Gradually, she started realizing about her disorder furthermore, the only cure to it, as recommended by the counsellor was- psychotherapy, wherein the past traumas of a person are brought into the picture plus acceptance and moving on taking place so that the stress levels are maintained and very fewer transitions take place in the patient's personality. Along with the therapy, medications to relieve her emotional stress were also prescribed by the psychiatrist. There is no other way out for Suzain but to live with the disorder and get the scheduled therapies done for a lifetime!
