To All at Our Lady Help of Christians

We've come to celebrate our Lady's feast day,

Who we all honor in the month of May,

There are many here who remember how we began,

For before this church there lay before us barren land. 

With open fields and earth churned ground,

It was in this we as kids would run around,

Then with no slides or even jump rope,

We all had to extend our imaginative scope. 

In those days when we were small,

We'd play various games as I recall,

Sometimes it was tag-girls against boys,

We never had the need for any toys.

I remember when we'd try to hunt for snakes,

Then we thought we had all it'd take,

Back then we didn't just play together,

With each game, we'd try to make things a little bit better. 

Yet Slowly this church came to be,

The very foundation which you all now see,

But it took a lot of work from all to get us here,

As many of us know to be abundantly clear. 

Jog-a-thon after jog-a-thon our earnings were sent,

Into this foundation, our money was spent,

Through the years I've seen us grow,

Even with the hardships, we'd come to know. 

I'm sure my classmates remember the insanity of 1st-grade year,

When we had more than one teacher appear,

Back then you couldn't anticipate what was bound to take place,

At that time structure rarely left its trace. 

I also remember when we had gone to the VFW,

Then there were many things which we had to do,

We all had classes in close quarters

Between each class the only things used were benches as borders.

I'm sure we remember that awful day

When due to an illness in regards to religion government had a say,

Then suddenly fear gripped all nationwide,

And by each governor's rules, even Catholics had to abide. 

Yet even when such troubles came to be,

Even though there were many buildings we'd come to see,

We had always managed to make situations turn out right,

Though It still surprises me in hindsight. 

But I guess I shouldn't be surprised,

It was through our Lady that our success had lied,

If there's anything I want you to take away from today,

It's that to Our Lady we must continue to pray
