The Soldier's Heart
The Soldier's Heart
He marches on, through heat and cold,
His face set firm, his heart so bold,
He's a soldier, with a duty to fulfill,
A warrior on the front line, with a soldier's will.
He's seen the horrors of war up close,
The blood, the pain, the endless throes,
He's fought for his country with all his might,
In the darkest of days, and the longest of nights.
He's lost friends and brothers, in the heat of the fray,
And he's felt the sorrow, of those left to stay,
He's seen the faces of the fallen, etched in his mind,
And he's carried their memory, for all of mankind.
He's fought for freedom, and for all that's right,
He's stood against tyranny, with all his might,
He's borne the weight of history, on his shoulders so strong,
And he's done it all, without a word of complaint, or a whimper, or a song.
He's faced the enemy, with courage and grace,
And he's stood his ground, in every single place,
He's faced death head on, with a soldier's heart,
And he's done it all, from the very start.
He's been away from home, for months and years,
And he's missed his family, and all that's dear,
But he's done it for love, and for all that's right,
And he's carried on, with all his might.
He's seen the world, through the eyes of war,
And he's come back changed, forevermore,
But he's still a soldier, in every single way,
And he'll fight for his country, every single day.
So let us remember, the soldiers brave and true,
Who've given their all, for me and you,
Let us honor them, with every breath we take,
And let their memory, forever awake.
For they are the ones, who've kept us free,
And they are the ones, who've made us believe,
In the power of hope, and the strength of the heart,
And in the power of love, that will never depart.
