My Teachers Impart An Everlasting Treasure (a Humble Tribute To All Who Have

Dear Teachers, you have lit up my life;

You’ve taught me to tackle my everyday strife.

You’ve taught me to read; you’ve taught me to write;

You’ve taught me to distinguish, the wrong from the right.

You’ve taught to add and also subtract;

But, from the right path, to never retract.

From you, I have learnt, social science and civic sense,

And also the past, present and future tense.

My Teachers, you’ve shown me the insights of science;

To put it to good use and proper appliance.

I’ve learnt the relation of cause and effect;

From you, I have learnt to be ever perfect.

Vernacular languages and also French,

From you, I’ve learnt on the classroom bench.

In the P.T.Hall, where we had those drills,

You’ve taught me to keep trim and knock out those frills.

You have taught me to sketch and also to draw,

And to make good things from paper and straw.

My Teachers, you have incited my imagination,

To appreciate the wonders of God’s creation.

You have been my parents when I was at school,

You have taught me to always follow the rule.

My parents have played your role in the house,

My mind and my heart, they did arouse.

Oh, God! You too have been a Teacher of the sort,

From you too, I have learnt since I was a tot.

 

The impulse, the reflex and the odd instinct;

Your obligation on me has been too distinct.

 

You’ve never used a blackboard or of an examiner played the role,

Nor sat through a convocation, to issue a degree scroll.

 

But I am sure You’ve rejoiced without any inhibition

When I realized what it meant to be your Creation.

 

So for my Teachers of Xavier’s to You, I pray;

To invoke Your blessings for them, every day.

 

Grant them good health, happiness and prosperity;

May I continue to benefit from their noble charity.

 

Dear God, grant them, Your Grace, in the fullest measure;

May the values they impart, be an everlasting treasure.
