Illusions

They lure you in with sweet words.

With words speaking of a great future, promising success.

They lure you in with sweet words. 

With words speaking of earned respect through long hours of hard work.

They lure you in with sweet words. 

With words speaking of big numbers on paychecks.

They lure you and lure you.

Over and over again.

Until...what?

All of it comes true?

Does it ALWAYS come true?

Is it really as fulfilling as they promise you to be?

Does it really turn out to be as sweet as they made it seem?

Do you really achieve great success and earn respect

Through long hours of hard work?

Do you really get big numbers on your paychecks?

Now, don't be discouraged,

sometimes it DOES happen.

But not without a fee paid in advance.

A sold soul, sold body

Or a time spent.

Those are the usual prices

That are for success, fortune and fame often paid.

Illusions are of great use in the world we live in.

There is no easy way out

Once the illusion settles in.

Being bold and defying the system, the so called 'values'

May not seem like it'll help much.

But at least then you get to keep that which you

Hold dear so much.

Your mind. Your heart.

Your pride. Your dignity.

Your spirit unbroken.

Your body untouched, if unwilling.

Hard to imagine keeping 

All of the above intact.

But once it happens, 

It is or it should be satisfying.
