Dreaded Dawns
Dreaded Dawns
I loved the nights, tucked in bed
Floating in a dream, till I hear my mother scream
“Wake up! It's morning and you are late”.
Then the morning madness begins.
Get up from bed, brush your teeth,
Have your milk, take your bath,
Wear your uniform, polish your shoes
Eat your breakfast, pack your school bag
Don’t forget your lunchbox….
Oh! How I hate dawn!
It’s vacation time and the nights will be long!
I go to bed, my lips with a song
Floating in a dream, till I hear my father scream
“Wake up! It's morning and time for a walk”.
Then the morning madness begins.
Get up from bed, brush your teeth
Have your milk, put on your running shoes
Run with Dad, stretch arms and legs…
Oh! How I hate dawn!
Am grown up now, I go to work
Still longing for those long and lovely nights
No school now, but
The shrill scream of the clock tells me
That my night is gone
And then, the morning madness begins.
Now married, with children two
Still in bed with dreams anew
“Wake up darling,” says my wife
“It's getting late for children’s school”
And then, the morning madness begins.
Am old now, and retired
I lie in bed, the sun is high
No wake-up calls, nothing to do
Oh! When will the morning madness begin!
