One Good Deed
One Good Deed

I can never forget that dark and gloomy day
When the skies filled with water were just pouring away
I was out in the streets, making my way
I was going to my office that day.
The trains were shut, the streets were empty
I waited for hours to find a cab.
In the distance, I saw this man old
Struggling with his umbrella fighting the cold.
I watched him anxiously as he struggled
Then suddenly he stumbled
And collapsed and started to drown.
I ran, shouting for help
A few passersby stopped and ran
In the direction of the drowning old man.
The elder, we found, had stepped into a manhole
Carelessly left open or broken, I don’t know
Down he went in, th
e old man
Sucked into the flooding waters.
We pulled him out in the nick of time
And I covered him with the raincoat of mine
And asked him “Are you fine?”
“My son,” he said “You not only saved me
But also, my wife.
She is ill and I ventured out
To fetch important medicines for her.
What would have happened to her if I had died?”
He took my hand, the old man did
He hugged me as hard as he could
Kissed me like I was his child
Tears flowing down his eyes.
That look of gratefulness, those words of love
Those emotions kind, that warm and sweet hug
Rent my heart and made me proud
At least one good deed
One memory to cherish.
