Black And White
Black And White
‘Charge!’ cried the infantry, pushing forward block by block,
Paving way for others to follow and stalk-
Resulting in heavy casualties on both sides,
All for a king too reluctant to fight;
Queen, Bishop, Knight, and Rook,
Fight to the end; for the war must be won, by hook or by crook.
Between gobsmacking moves to trap the king;
And pretentious moves that fling,
Lies the answer to it all-
The question remains, out of the two-who will fall?
The surviving foot-soldiers get promoted, while the king ever weak and cowardly;
Taking refuge in his forces that gathered…
The climax at the end is worth everything
Opponents look hard at the board, concentrating…
Between arduous moves and fleeing for refuge,
“Checkmate” cries the winner with joy infused
