A Shadow At The Window

A Shadow At The Window

2 mins
192

There’s a shadow at the windowpane,

With noise drifting across the doorway.

The creaking sound from the shutter,

It is scary and giving me chills.

Now, who is knocking at the door?

What will I do at this hour of distress?

I am home alone at this moment.

 The old-fashioned curtains are hung;

On that antique-looking glass windows.

I am pretty sure someone is watching,

From the reverse side of the window.

Oh! Time is ticking like an unseen bomb.

I want to run away from this place,

     Has our home been hunted?

I cannot move from my place,

As if my legs are glued to the floor.

Why had nobody warned me before,

About any house ghosts lurking here?

       Anytime they may pop out,

Showing their forms at the window!

Can it jump from the outer side to the inside,

Just to give me a shock?

But it seems a different story at the moment.

My family just went out a while ago,

     Without any prior announcement.

Should I have left with them?

        I have realized by now,

          It isn’t an intruder.

Silly of me to even think like that,

Why will a thief stick to the pane?

My mind is playing games of panic,

         keeping me captive.

          But, it is still there.

       Did I imagine unnatural things,

        Maybe, as I am jetlagged.

I am exhausted, need to go to bed.

Perhaps, none is staring at me,

And no odd noises can be heard.

Is the silhouette akin to my contour?

Or Is it the Palm tree of our compound?

As I cannot walk, how will I get the fact?

       My eyes are shutting now,

I am unable to go near that window.

But who is knocking so hard at the door?

Gosh! Will they try to break the gate?

My heart is ready to pop with a plop,

A shadow, wind and a knock,

The objects which are still outside,

       Can they wreak havoc within?

         Where is my cell phone?

      So engrossed in my thoughts,

        I had forgotten about it.

The shrills of the doorbell scatter the room,

The madness is not over, yet

The power goes out as a cue,

And the entire house is plunged into the darkness.

Where is the shadow at the moment?
