Who Is Arrogant?

Vidyamanohar Sharma, the famous Mathematics teacher, was standing along with his students in front of the institute. Since the classroom was occupied, he waited patiently for it to get it vacated. At the same time Mr. Raman Reddy, the Income-tax Commissioner, came along with his son in his official car and approached Sharma Sir.

“Who are you and have you seen Rammaya Sir?” Mr. Reddy asked Sharma Sir

“I am a teacher in this institute and Rammaya sir is out of town” Replied Sharma sir

“How is it possible? He has already given me 10 am, Wednesday slot for the entrance test of my son”. Stated Mr. Reddy with a tinge of annoyance and eyed him with suspicion.

“Test for new students are conducted on Thursday and today is Wednesday” replied Sharma Sir

 

“Hello I am Income tax commissioner and please go and tell Rammaya sir about our meeting” — Mr. Reddy replied and arrogance was quite visible from his tone.

“I am telling you, sir, that Rammaya sir is not in the office and he is out of town” very humbly replied Sharma sir.

However, Mr. Reddy adamantly persisted his demand of meeting Mr. Rammaya. Now he was getting annoyed as if Mr. Sharma was not following his command.

“If he is not in office then shall I go to his home to look for him?” asked Mr. Reddy agitatedly.

 

“In that case, I suggest going to Tirupati rather than going to his house as you may find him there queuing up for ‘darshan’.” Sharma sir told in a calm and composed manner.

Speechless, Mr. Reddy gawked at Sharma sir and left.

Later Mr. Reddy complained to Mr. Rammaya about the behavior of Sharma and for this, he was called by Mr. Rammaya.

‘’Why did you speak arrogantly to Mr. Reddy? We should speak politely to our customers.’’ Mr. Rammaya told Sharma Sir.

“In spite of his high-handed behaviour, I tried my utmost to keep my calm. He had as much right to find out the truth and satisfy himself, as I had to hold on the truth steadfastly.” Sharma sir answered in a matter-of-fact tone.

“No! No! Sharma, you need to understand how to deal with customers especially these officials” emphatically said by Mr. Rammaya and he tried to dominate over Sharma sir.

Now Sharma sir was unduly cornered.

“Shall I ask a question? Sharma asks Mr. Rammaya.

“Ok! Go ahead” replied Mr. Rammaya.

“Suppose I go to your house looking for you and your wife tells me that you are not at home, then should I accuse her of lying and start harassing her or should I greet her smilingly and leave a message for you?” Sharma sir asked Mr. Rammaya.

Completely stumped by Sharma sir’s reply, Mr. Rammaya wriggled his toes, blinked his eyes, cracked his knuckles but could not find a befitting reply.

Sharma Sir has clearly won the day!!
