The Real Gem

Chapter 1- Newcomer

There was once a girl named Anoushka in B.G International school. She was an intelligent, smart and bright student and always stood first in her class till grade 4, but in Grade 5 a new girl named Sanika got admission in her school. In fact, for Anoushka's surprise, the new girl was in her division 5th A.

Sanika was very clever and hardworking. She was a beautiful girl with thick and long hair. She was an introvert, soft-spoken and shy to mingle with the new classmates.

 

Chapter 2- The race for the marks.

Sanika scored more in almost all the class tests within a month. Anoushka was feeling sad as her "first place in the class “was in danger. All the teachers praised the new girl and other students also like her.

Very soon Anoushka's fear turned into jealousy. She used to feel jealous about Sanika's intelligence and beautiful long hair.

During one of the break time in school, Anoushka shared her feelings of jealousy to her best friend Aarya. Aarya tried to convince

Anoushka that Sanika was a very kind girl but all her efforts were in vain. Anoushka asked, “If she is a good and nice girl why she doesn't talk to us?" She said, “I think she has pride in her intelligence and looks. “ Aarya said, “Anoushka, I think Sanika is shy and hesitates to make new friends, that’s all. “Anoushka didn't agree to this. She replied, "Ohh, Aarya so you too like her only “ and being quick-tempered she stopped talking with Aarya too. Aarya needed lots of efforts to convince Anoushka to be friends again. Finally, after 1-month Anoushka agreed to be friends with Aarya.

 

Chapter 3- Marks in the exam

Anoushka's jealousy about Sanika's marks and beautiful long hair was still in her mind. After a few days, the first periodic test was declared by the school.

Anoushka studied very hard particularly this time so that she would come first not Sanika. On the other hand, Sanika was also studying hard, but she didn't study to compete with Anoushka. The periodic test passed off and Anoushka was sure she would score the highest as usual. After two weeks the results of the exam were out but this time Sanika stood first and Anoushka was in second place.

 

Chapter 4-Angry girl.

Anoushka's jealousy was growing day by day. She often wondered how does Sanika have long black shiny hair that reaches her lower back when tied with ribbons.

After a few days, their class teacher Mrs Mohanty changed the places of all the students in the classroom. By Anoushka's bad luck Mrs Mohanty made her sit with Sanika.

She did not like Sanika at all and she had to sit with Sanika every single day!

She always looked angrily at Sanika whenever a teacher praised her and whenever she looked at Sanika's beautiful long hair she would look even more angrily at her. 

 

Chapter 5 -A surprise day

The academic year almost passed. In some of the exams Anoushka was the topper and in some Sanika would be the topper.

One Monday, Sanika came to school with cut hair that reaches her neck only. Everybody was surprised to see Sanika in short haircut. Anoushka was happy that finally, her hair was longer than Sanika.

 

Chapter 6 -Annual concert

Before the final exams, in the month of February, they had their school's annual concert. Every year school would announce and felicitate most promising student with a special prize called “student of the year“ in the annual concert.

Anoushka had crossed her finger and was sure that she would bag this prize.

On stage, there were honourable chief guest, principal mam Mrs Sharma and Mrs Roy their cultural headteacher to host the event.

Their principal Mrs Sharma stood up and said that “The winner of this year's "Student of the year" for Grade 5 is ..." Anoushka was holding her breath in anticipation.

And Mrs Sharma said, "Sanika Mehetre, from 5th A."

Then after this what she said was unbelievable..."Sanika is the most deserving candidate for this prize not only because she is intelligent and good at grades but she has done a noble work towards our society... Sanika has donated her beautiful long hair to make wigs for the unfortunate children who are suffering from cancer and have lost their hair fighting against its treatment!!!"

 

Chapter 7-The clear sky.

On hearing principal mam's words Anoushka's jealousy turned into a new respect for Sanika. She whispered in Aarya's ears that " She is a 'real gem.' I was totally wrong...let's be friends with Sanika."
