The mermaid and the fisherman

There was once a fisherman who used to work very hard to put some food on his family’s plate. His hands wore off but he kept working with a consistency of hard work. He worked like a slave and was as busy as a bee but still, his only aim in life was to give his kith and kin a good and safe life. Lazy lustrous mornings and magnificent mornings. One day when he was fishing, he felt that his net was stuck somewhere and it indeed was. When he dived in to check what had happened, he saw a beautiful little thing swimming elegantly in the water which was later to be known as a mermaid. When he asked her where his net was stuck, she mysteriously swam away. When he followed her into her den, he saw that she had deliberately hidden his fishing net. The minute he asked her the reason for her act, she said something that was emotionally moving. He went back to his house and told his wife to choose another profession for him.

When she asked for the reason, the fisherman told her what the mermaid had said. “the marine life is also a part of earth’s ecosystem. You, humans, are sabotaging our empire for your own good. Just like when you encounter an earthquake, we experience the same thing when you fish for us. It’s just that it is not in reality but in our hearts. We are really close to each other, just like family. Please save the sea.” Saying this the mermaid gave him his net and disappeared as if into thin air. Suddenly, the fisherman got a clever idea. He told his wife, “instead of killing fish, why don’t I give them a better life? Why don’t I become a fish seller but fish that are kept as pets, not to be devoured?” “hey, that’s a great idea. Do the same work for a different cause. Sweet.” And so it was decided, his new and not cruel but kind profession would be a pet fish seller.
