The Last Wish

Ralf was the son of a poor farmer. His father [Rob] would hardly earn for their family. Ralf used to live with his parents and his little brother Jerry. Jerry would work hard on the farm. Ralf would write stories and study hard. Neither Ralf nor Jerry used to complain about their life. Their mother used to cook and do all the housework.

One day Rob was asked to join the army as all of a sudden world war was declared. He couldn’t refuse as they needed money. Rob packed his bag and went. While going, he said to Ralf “Son, you must take care of our family. You must work as a farmer and study well with your little brother.” To this, Ralf replied “of course. Father! I will give my best to keep mom and Jerry happy. I hope I will be able to see you again.” We were really sad. Rob hugged Ralf and Jerry before leaving. “I promise that I will be a good son and a good brother.”

  Few Months Later…..

One morning Ralf and his family were packing their bags and preparing to move to a bigger city because Ralf got his dream job at a famous company. When they were about to leave, they received a phone call. Ralf picked up the call and started talking “Hello, this is Ralf Anderson speaking”. The other person replied “Ralf Anderson, sorry to say but your father, Rob Anderson has died a Martyr’s death. He has left an old envelope for you. Please come to the army office and collect it. Ralf dropped the phone in shock. The whole family rushed to the army office with great sorrow.

After reaching there, they asked for the envelope, a man came forward and gave him the envelope.

In the envelope there was a note written “My last wish” and Army joining form filled with Ralf’s details, there was only one blank left to fill that was Ralf’s signature.
