The Honest Girl
The Honest Girl
Once upon a time, there lived a queen of Sunland. She had a five-year-old son named Saffil. One day, Saffil was playing in the sand when suddenly he saw a rabbit which was jumping through the forest. Saffil liked it and followed the rabbit, so he had lost his way. Fifteen years had gone by. The queen dreamed about another baby girl, so that the girl would be more beautiful and honest. A baby girl was born, but without beauty. The queen hated the child and named the baby Uko. Fourteen years went by, and on her fifteenth birthday, she dreamed that all the people would wish her. But the next day, no one had wished her, so sadly, she went into the forest and walked for a few hours until she got tired. She sat on a wooden piece, and suddenly a strong storm arose. Uko's eyes got some dust, so she wrapped her eyes and opened them to find a fairy standing in front of her. The fairy said that what she didn't have would not come to her, but what her mother searched for fifteen years would come to her. Uko had two traps in her way.
While she was walking, she wanted water, so she saw a river and drank water. Suddenly, a lion appeared. Uko asked it to leave her alone, and the lion said it would leave her if she did one thing. Uko asked what, and the lion said to go to a beggar and bring back the bread. Uko thought the beggar only had a single bread, so how could she bring it? She said to the lion that if it wanted something, she would give her chain. After another hour, a crow called to Uko. She looked up, and the crow said to go to a child and tell him that the nearby river had some gold and to jump into the river. Uko thought that if the small boy jumped into the river, he couldn't swim, so she decided not to do it and gave her last gold ring to the crow.
After a few minutes, she heard someone calling for help. She searched for the voice and found a prince with his leg covered in boils. She applied some Ayurvedic medicine and thought to take the prince to the castle, but she knew that her mother would not accept the prince and her. However, when she went to the castle, the queen accepted both the prince and Uko. The flashback is that the beggar, lion, small boy, and crow went to the queen and told her all the incidents. The queen became emotional, so that's why she allowed Uko.
Uko was thinking about the fairy's words when the queen asked the prince his name. The prince said Saffil, and the queen became shocked and said that was her son's name. After that, the queen explained all the incidents, and Uko understood the meaning of the fairy's words: she didn't get the beauty but got her brother.
