The Chess Trap

The Chess Trap

There were hustles and bustles everywhere as I was late for school. I had a strange dream last night which was making me feel dizzy. I just couldn't control myself. I was very slow at everything and had just one passion; Passion to play chess. I just couldn't let my mind off chess and I was addicted to it. With a sigh, I ran in my corridor, tripped on a leg. A leg, you heard me right. I looked around. "Hmm. I shouldn't be imagining things like that. I should..." all my thoughts were disturbed by the loud honking of my bus.

I ran for my luck, and yes. To my luck, I just caught up with the school bus just before it left the bus stop. I couldn't help getting embarrassed. All my friends were staring at me. "What?" I asked. They didn't budge. Luckily, we reached school. The guard spat bubblegum just on my pair of trousers. "What on earth? Can't you see I was passing? Why did..." " Hey boy! Come here!" I just was going wild when my bus teacher Mrs. Cuddles called me. "Oh yes, teacher! I'm coming!". I ran but something held me back. I just can't tell you what happened next. It was so horrific. "Come here fast! Can't you hear me calling?" she shouted on top of her lungs. I ran so fast that when I reached up to her, she opened her mouth and sucked me in!!. "Ah! Help me! O wise men! please" I yelled hoping for the best as I tumbled down her esophagus. I landed in someplace where I didn't know. This was not her stomach....

I landed in a desert, similar to the Sahara. I looked at each of the sides. "Where on Earth am I?' I looked down, I looked up and then exhausted, I looked left. To my horror and surprise, something just brushed by my nose. I ran right, just to find that they were only the pieces. My voice rang from up. I bet that came from heaven. It said: "You have to play white and defeat your opponent. You are their king. Wear the king's clothes near the board and play carefully. You are challenging a master chess computer. If you lose, you are sucked into the ground and will stay there forever. Good luck!". "Oh my gosh! at first, I thought this was some death ride, but then, I was forced to play.

I wore the king's robes. They smelt like many people have been using it. I wore the crown and at that particular moment, the pieces sprang to life. I didn't imagine this would happen. I fainted. I was woken up by the white knight. It said: "Play us well king, otherwise you wouldn't bear to hear what would happen to you next." "Okay knight. I will try my best." I replied. The game began.

I planned to play the Budapest, but before I could even think about it, my knight had been knocked off by black's queen. "Hey, queen! Grab that pawn there!" I yelled. "What square?" She replied cheekily. "Uh.. d6". She made a grab for it. Our next bishop was taken too. I felt like I was about to cry. I ordered my knight to jump and capture another knight on a5. That was a very good move. The black king stared at me. I felt shocked! "Hey, Tommy! What are you doing here?" I just discovered that my friend Tommy was the black king. "Hey, Jack! You too?" He said. He was equally surprised.

I had an idea to checkmate him. "Hey Tommy, ready to lose?" "Nope, thanks! I think it would be better if you lose." He laughed. But this idea struck in both of our minds. If we checkmate each other, the loser would have to suffer. So if we made a stalemate, we both will escape. So we did what we planned. "Hey queen! Trade yourself with the other queen and you bishop, trade yourself with that pawn". The trade was made. It was a stalemate. Our surroundings changed. We were back in school. Mr Delph was teaching us math. I guess we were physically present but mentally absent. "Good match Tommy!" I congratulated him. "You played better than me!" he said. "Ahh.. , we played for the best". We had escaped from the trap and were back on our feet again.
