Audrey had just finished her long chemistry research paper. "I've finally finished it!" she thought, sorting out the reference books she had borrowed from the library. She checked her watch. "7 p.m.", she muttered to herself, "I'll have a stroll around before going to dinner."

She heard a girl showing off her new necklace. It was her friend, Maybell. Girls were crowded around Maybell, asking her questions about her necklace. "How much did it cost?" asked one. "Where did you get it?" piped up another. "Do you have any more of these?" quizzed another.

She went for a stroll around. As usual, on the ground floor, there was the receptionist. Behind the receptionist's desk was a framed certificate. It was the latest one and had come that very year. "This is to certify that Oakswood College has successfully completed 90 years since it has been founded," it said, in bold black letters.

A few minutes later, the lights turned off. It wasn't even dinner time, let alone bed time. Audrey reached for her phone in her pocket. She switched on the light and began tracing her way back to the residence room. Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice on the speakers-Professor Michael Carter.

"Lights are out. Students are requested to remain where they are." Audrey froze to the spot. In the distance, she could hear wardens bustling over to the controls room. A few minutes later, the lights were back on, and they emerged, conversing about the blackout. "I've got no idea how it could happen! It wasn't a power cut. The wires didn't snap either," she heard them say.

She left, wondering how it could happen. "Somebody must have done it by mistake," she thought. A bit later, at dinnertime, as people walked down to the cafeteria, she saw Maybell. Maybell was in tears. Another girl seemed to be consoling her.

"What's up, Maybell? Anything wrong?" she asked her. "Oh, it's terrible, Audrey, it-it's terrible! My necklace's lost! The c-crystal one!" sobbed Maybell. "But you were wearing it all this time! You were showing it to the other girls before I left the room, remember?" exclaimed Audrey. She wasn't surprised that Maybell was crying about her necklace-she knew Maybell was fond of her clothes and accessories. She was surprised that she had lost a crystal necklace within moments of opening an showing it off.
