Meena a 9-year-old lived in a village called Moothakurichi in Tamil Nadu. If Meena wanted something would make it possible in any way, though it was stealing, fighting or any other reason. The month of October was soon getting over and Diwali was on the doorstep. Meena's villagers celebrated Diwali wholeheartedly. Meena lived with her grandparents in a small hut and were poor. Meena was very excited for Diwali. As Diwali was near by Meena with her grandmother went to a shop to buy crackers. Meena reached the shop and saw a wonderful cracker set on one of the rack in the shop, Meena was amazed by the set of crackers. She spotted it out to her grandmother, her grandmother told the shop keeper to get it to them. Meena said, Amma can we please buy it? Oh gosh it is for 300 rupees!!! No Meena this is too expensive, you can look for another one. Amma please.... Meena you see they have only one of this and this is looking a little disturbing to me.

Meena called her grandmother Amma and grandfather Appa. Meena bought 1 rain cracker for 5 rupees and left the market. Meena was very sad when she reached home. She sat in a corner sobbing all day. Late night after dinner she sat on the bed thinking of some idea to get the crackers. Soon a idea popped in her mind. When her grandparents were fast asleep at 7 'o' clock she went to her cupboard to steal money. she took 300 rupees and tip - toed to the shop and bought the cracker set. Meena came home and was surprised to see her grandmother at the doorstep. Oh god!! Amma is on the door, how an I going to hide the crackers?? Amma stepped ahead and said to Meena where were you for so long?? Oh I? I had gone for exercising today. Good one Meena. I will come with you tomorrow. Huff!! I got saved or I would have got caught.

As I mentioned earlier Meena would do anything to make something she wanted possible. So Meena went to her back yard where a small room made with hay and straw was there. Meena's grandfather used to work at a the farm they owned but later stopped working because of a serious matter. So she hid it in the hut and went back home. Now Meena was very happy and smiling the whole day. Amma asked her, Meena you look very happy today, what might be the reason? Nothing much Amma I am happy that you atleast bought me the rain cracker yesterday. Alright my dear I am going to meet my friend Yashoda will see you soon bye evening. Take good care of Appa. Give him all the medicines on time! Bye dear! And Amma left. Meena looked at the calender and exclaimed it is Diwali tomorrow!! Yay! Appa can i go play with my friends outside. Yes but be back soon. Meena played for a while a then went to the hut in the back yard. Yup now 12 hours more to burst these crackers.

She had dinner and went asleep wondering in her dreams about the next day. Meena woke-up the next day and waited eagerly for the evening. At 7 pm Meena and her friends went to burn the crackers. Amma and Appa were at home. she took the set of crackers and lit it on........... And booom! Meena burnt her hand. Crying and sobbing in pain she went home and told amma and appa what happened. Meena's grandmother took her to the doctor and she got treatment. After she came home she her grandmother scolded her and Meena had learnt a lesson she would never forget at any cost. Soon Meena with amma and appa lived happily ever after.
