Sonu Bhaiya

"Let's Go." Said Shailendra, to Santosh and Anurag. A consensus was formed between the three about beating up people coming from a coaching class. "But just a light slap or punch, the aim is not to hurt, this is strictly for our career development".

Sonu Bhaiya was known as the don of Urrahat, a small place inside a small town. Sonu Bhaiya was a different and a more common kind of Don, the nonviolent type. He was known more for talks than action. The reason for his Don status was some unverified stories about how dangerous he used to be. His real superpower was the free time he had, which gave him the luxury to listen to petty issues of people, he also had the skills to convince people that he will do something about their problems. But actually acting on those problems would need time, and that would deprive him of the only resource available to him which happened to be his superpower. His brilliance had earned him few admirers. Shailendra was one of them.

It started with a simple discussion among three friends about the origin story of Sonu Bhaiya the Don. Does it have something to do with his charm? Or his strength? Or his looks? After the realization that he got none of these properties, Shalilenra came up with an awesome explanation - "He would have started small. Before getting into bigger fights, he would have dealt with small-time goons." Like how it happens in every Hindi gangster movie, the hero defeats small players one by one and before anyone realizes, starts being seen as a respected Don." And that's how the idea to beat some people, whoever they are, came into existence.

Coaching classes seemed to be the perfect place to find harmless people in numbers. The coaching class was identified and the decision to hit whoever was coming out was taken. It was decided that they won't hide their faces, else how would people know who the new Don in town is. It sounded as stupid to them as it is looking to you while reading, but what value does an idea have that doesn't sound stupid.

It was executed as planned, no one was hurt, but there was confusion everywhere - Who the hell are these people and what's our fault? Signs of success started showing the next day, it was the topic of discussion in all coaching classes, so was Shailendra, many people had seen him before and recognized him as a friend of Sonu Bhaiya.

But then something happened that neither of the three had thought through. According to them, in the worst-case, someone will complain to the police or come to their house. They were prepared for that. But what they did not think was, that people knew Sonu Bhaiya, and few of them believed that he can solve problems. Though Sonu Bhaiya would have provided assurance without having any control over the situation, this time he knew how to address the problem. Do nothing Shalendra might be stupid, but not stupid enough to do this again.

In the end, the plan that was to be the announcement of the new Don did the exact opposite. Students around the area who didn't even know who Sonu Bhaiya was, now knew that he stopped a bunch of people from creating a nuisance, Shailendra became the evil guy who got scared of Sonu Bhaiya and will no longer be a problem. Without any efforts, Sonu Bhaiya became the hero. A hero that Urrahat needed, and also deserved.

This might be an isolated story, but this is probably how any cult is formed. Not due to the brilliance of an individual, but due to the stupidity of a few handful people. Sonu Bhaiya might still be a useless fellow for most people around, but as long as there are enough people blinded by such incidents, he might even win an election and continue doing the job he is best at - "Nothing".
