Our Precious Independence
Our Precious Independence
Do you know how India got independence?
Long ago in the 18th century, British used to rule over India. They wanted India, so they tortured and killed many people to take over India.
In Chhattisgarh, there lived a very common family. Suman was the father, Sunita the mother and Chinni the baby girl. One day Suman heard the noise of bullet fires and woke up from his sleep. Everyone woke up. Sunita asked Suman “What is happening outside, why can I hear bullet fires”? Suman was about to go out but Sunita told not to go as something could happen to him. But he still went out and saw that the Britishers were shooting some people. So, he took his family to a safe place – one of the Britisher's bulletproof car.
He drove it to Ranchi. They were safe, only for some time. They went from one place to
another. In one place, Chinni’s father went out to see if there was anyone outside and at that moment he got shot by the British! Chinni and her mother were so sad. They had a tough life. Chinni was determined that she will become a freedom fighter and she will sacrifice herself for the independence of India.
When she turned 16 years, she learned how to use a gun. She got trained in a Swadeshi team and
became a fierce freedom fighter. At the midnight, Chinni went out, shot the bad British officers as per her assignment and went back to her home. The next evening Chinni and some other people went out practicing for the swadeshi movement. At that point in time, the Britishers killed one of Chinni’s friend. Chinni was very angry. The Britishers started a fight. She fought aggressively and while fighting, Chinni got shot in her hand but still did not give up and continued fighting. She and her friends had killed half of the Britishers in Ranchi. In one of the fights, she got shot. One of her other friends ran to her and saw that the bullet had hit directly on her chest. They could not save her. India lost a brave freedom fighter.
After that day, her mother was very sad but also proud of her because her daughter had sacrificed her life for the freedom of India. So now we know how we got independence. People sacrificed their lives to free India or else we would not be living in peace. We think Independence day is a holiday but it is a very important day, it is the day India got freedom from the British rulers. We should pay respect to our freedom fighters. Salute to them!
