My pencil sketch was almost done and the clock alarmed me of my dance classes in another hour. It usually takes 20 mins from my new place to reach there and I had a good 40 mins spare. I thought I will continue few more pages of Clifton Chronicles on my Kindle but then I saw the lying incomplete assignment. Finally I settle with “I will do it later” and start walking. The energetic I sees a parallel road that had some nice lavender flowers blooming and my brain shouts “let’s explore”! The inner I says no let’s take the usual route but exceptional ideas always win over the accustomed ones and I chose the new road. 10 mins down the lane and I realize I am not even near the main road. 10 mins more and I know this is leading somewhere else; then 15 mins of wandering and now I am lost. The beautiful flowers had now disappeared and the running drops of sweat indicated that I had come too long. Courage kept me going even though the road now was no more smooth. My watch showed that I have missed today’s dance lessons. And no more energy to do the chores that were important; that sketch in need of a finishing, that half completed novel and that undone assignment!

This new road was a virtual reality you never wanted to give up. Maybe because you chose it; maybe because you thought it was right; maybe because you felt it will help you reach your destination!

Never give up is the mantra that is instilled in us from our childhood. But I would say knowing what to never give up is very important. Had I given up on the idea of a new route, I would be safe. Had I given up on the idea of continuing even after knowing I am lost, I would be saved too. Give up! Give up on things that are meant to destroy you. Give up on things that will never change or prove any better. Don’t blame the lavender flowers. They did their job of distracting you. Don’t blame the road for not being good; it is never going to be one! Blame yourself for you didn’t think! Neither at the beginning, nor at the mid-road then to reach a dead end. But also pat your back. For you showed the strength in you to cling on something and understood when to take a U-turn! Do not regret anything. Each step on the old road is a new lesson learnt.
