My Poonawali Mummy/ My Nani

Picking this topic felt so right when I saw this contest. My latest post on Instagram will also tell you about these treasured women in my life.

Destiny has somehow always kept me close to my grandparents, maternal ones. I am blessed with 2 mothers in this life, feel like a lady Krishna at times - LOL!!

There is one who gave birth to me and then there is my Nani, mothers mother who raised me most of my life.

My mother had some accident due to which my Nani had to take care of me while I was nine months old and there onwards, I was on and off at her place. Finally from standard 3 to now, I am with my grandparents only. I am more like her daughter and resemble her in all means.

My grandparents have taken care of us more than anyone in the world could have. I still have the memory of kissing both of them before leaving for school every day. I still peck my grandma while leaving for journeys if she is around.

Bauji my grandpa took us out almost every weekend, played Holi with us when we had no friends around! This guy has zeal like no other!

I wish I could give the world to them. However, I do as much as I can with their and my age showing up.

Our opinions differing, our anger raging, our conversations going hither tither, but its all good when they look out for you, smile when you get them something and are proud of you!

I think as I grew up I started to call my Nani Poonawali mummy as I toggled between my parents and her. My mum still is called by her first name and then mummy by me (Jayu Mummy)

My Nani is one strong-headed, opinionated, rebellious woman. A tall, fair, warm woman with a beautiful smile and welcoming talkative personality. She was the mother to her 9 siblings while her mother kept giving birth to them. A respected elder who is also addressed as ''Nani Ben'' by her siblings.

She broke some norms in the traditional society and I look up to her for that. She did some dare devils and got my aunt married inter-caste after making sure both the bride and groom have established some career for themselves. Allowed my mother to start wearing salwar kameez back then in the '90s when none of the women in our community dared too!

Between these 2 acts were like a taboo in our society when Poonawali mummy nailed it

My mum, on the other hand, had to re-start her life post 2 children with no husband and voila!! she's done an amazing job for herself.

These 2 strong women keep me motivated and are ''Real Heroines'' in our normal life.

Cheers to these women, their zeal to keeping up to the world around and their children while taking care of their own independence.

I know its not Women's day but for me its strength in the form of these two in my life.
