Festival Of Light……

Festive occasions are always a treat…so was this one!

After a great day with cousins, I slowly resigned into a silent evening to light the diyas & stroll on my terrace to watch the fireworks around.

Its been years since I sent out these beautiful missiles into the night sky! I strongly support the eco-cause, but surely it would be a lie to say that I don’t fancy these sights! No harm in being a spectator I suppose! Hasn’t anyone found a way to make crackers without polluting the environment?? That’s a question to ponder on…

With thoughts as these, I just looked down onto the road. My street was deserted, all kids grown up and hardly any crackers around!

Down the road, on the footpath, sat a poor old man with a small kid on his lap, playing with a blissful eternal smile on its face. He looked at the kid, and pointed at the sky, asking the kid to look up. He wanted the kid to witness the grandeur of the festival of light!!! I was moved by that act; it was an inexplicable feeling to understand that the old man could only show it to the kid. They could not be a part of lighting up the sky!

Would the kid’s eyes have lit up if he had been offered to light a rocket? Maybe so…Maybe not….

The old man lit a cigarette and sat smoking next to the kid. The kid was not causing any damage to his surroundings, no pollution, nothing! but was anyway affected with pollution from the cigar! irony? huh!

Just then, a family in the street across came out to light flowerpots and sparklers. The kid’s eyes slowly turned towards the enticing event there. His gaze was fixed upon the rolling chakra on the ground. My heart missed a beat, to see craving in a kid’s eyes, and for something as small as a single cracker! Heart Breaking!

The family walked in after some time, and the street was once again deserted, no sign of any activity. My eyes focused back on the kid. The kid crawled around the old man and found two pebbles & in no time the kid was deeply engrossed with the pebbles with the beautiful smile etched back on its face! Not a trace of the craving & yearning left in its eyes!

Things were just the same as before, just the old man and the kid on the street, gazing at the bewitching night sky!

Life just goes on….Light in Life, is as you see it.....
