“Dude..Do you mind … shifting from my bed ” said Deep to his elder brother Ram.

Ram, was in midle of getting his college work done, the night college which he attended. Morning was busy worktime for the chef Ram at nearby Udipi.

Deep and Ram go back to 2002 in Ahmedabad. Ram was 6 yrs old and Deep 6mths. Their parents just finished their dinner at their humble home and winding up. Deep was reading in his bed and ram was in his cradle. Thud, was the sound at the door, some firecrackers sounds and constant knocking and yelling. Bam boom with footseps…swords and steel rods clanging, and next we hear sounds of breaking the main door.

Mom ran to Ram’s room and instructed him to hide under the bed..and not to say a word…she then ran to deep’s cradle..got him and hid him under the bed with Ram. She was locking the room , when mob pushed the door..flinging her to far. From under the bed, Ram saw footsteps and swords dipped in blood.

Mom was stabbed twice in her stomach, and as soon as she fell to the ground, the mob left . all was heard was father’s shouts of help and complete silence fell. After some time, with his little bother in his arms Ram crept from under the bed. The scene was unimaginable and he saw his mother gasping for last breath. He sat beside her, with tears trodding doun but tongue tied with horror dripping from every inch of his existence.

Mother said, “ Run…take care of Deep always. Never return back.”

Like a soldier with his little brother in his arms he ran from the back doors and hid in the nearby shrubs.

From that day onwards, Ram has been every relation to his younger brother. From working in the day time, to meet both the ends and studying at night to make his carrer, never a day has gone by ram never had his brother’s back.

Deep: Move Ram .. why don’t you work on your bed ?

Ram throws the pillow on Deep’s head and moves towards his bed.

He saw a brand new laptop and a message with a thread which looked like some rakhi.

It read “Thank you Brother for always saving my back and Protecting me. I have my every relation in you. Tomorrow being Raksha Bandhan…I want to tie this on your wrist..its because of you ..that I Am….a small gift for you…but better let me use your laptop like its MINE”.
