Charu has her birthday in 23hours and she is happy and excited about it as she will receive plenty of gifts, and she loves to open those gifts. This time she had expected to receive a barbie doll set and she was waiting to open the presents after cutting the cake.

Next day, she got up to the rays of the sun, rubbed her eyes, opened the curtains and was happy that it was her birthday today, she went downstairs and found her parents standing to wish her and her father took her and swirled and swirled her, Charu was giggling with happiness, she wished her birthday would never end, as she didn't have to study and nobody would scold her.

It was evening, her friends started coming and she saw many guests coming with presents and she cut the cake which had her favorite character Snow White on it and she was very happy to receive so many presents and also she played with her friends and had her favorite food.

All had gone, it was time to open the presents which was her favorite part, she sat along with her parents to open the presents which every year she used to do, she opened them one by one and she received many barbie dolls, kitchen sets, stationary and lunch boxes and bottles and many beautiful dresses as well. The last present that was remaining was a medium-sized one, she opened it and saw it was given by one of her uncles who wasn't that rich and she found it was a tin box which had two smiling soft squishy toys, Charu didn't like it much and she also found a note and gave it to her father to read, and he read it.

"Dear Charu,

I know you might have received wonderful presents but my present is not for you, I want you to gift this to one who has forgotten to smile and I want you to visit this old age home for which I have given address and gift one of them on the next day of your birthday and there you will find your real present which will persist for your entire life!

"Happy Birthday"

-Uncle Raju"

Charu was again excited and wanted to get her real present, her parents were curious to know as well. The next day, they left for the old age home and were surprised to see many old people walking around, all in their 60's and 90's, each one was doing some activity like some exercising, some doing yoga and some walking and jogging. Charu wasn't happy and she went in, she saw a park with no slide and was upset, just then she saw many old women knitting sweaters and other stuff, all busy in one or the other way. Charu turned to her father and wanted to go back but her father reminded her of her present and also gave her the tin box which had the smiley and asked to give it to one who doesn't smile. Charu was in search of somebody like that and just then she saw an old lady sitting in the chair and staring at the blue sky and wondering and murmuring something to herself. Charu went to her and held her hand, the old lady was surprised. Charu then gave her the tin box, the lady opened it and she was very, very happy to see the smileys.

She held Charu and hugged her tight and said, "I know you would give me a gift on my birthday, thank you and my son has sent you right? Who is in America? I know he has sent me to an old age home because he cannot look after me but I knew he will never forget my birthday", Charu didn't understand and looked at her father. Her father said: "Yes, your son sent us and he said he would love to see you smiling like these squishes." The lady had tears of joy in her eyes and held Charu and said, "you are so cute and just like my granddaughter. I believe because I have never seen her", Charu felt happy but she didn't know why and she asked the lady for her gift which her uncle had told.

The lady said, "yes, of course, your gift is...I will tell you a lovely story." Charu was so excited and happy, she heard the story and later all the people in the old age home celebrated that lady's birthday and the first bite of cake was given to Charu. She loved to play with all of them and since then every Sunday she used to pay a visit to the old age home. She loved their company.

This was the gift her uncle had told which she would have for her entire life, when she grew up she thanked her uncle always for such a lovely gift which lasted for years.
