It was a chilly morning, the sound of an alarm clock filled up the empty silence in Holling Manor. Young Sylvia jumped out of bed and rushed to her parents’ room and yelled “Its Christmas!” but to her surprise the room was desolate. There was only a box that lay on their perfectly made bed, Sylvia sighed and went back to her room with a frown. It was kind of expected because her parents were in and out all the time. She kind of got used to it after her parents’ missed her 8th birthday for being the guests of honour at an event.

She was devastated but she wasn’t going to let that ruin her Christmas so she quickly got dressed up and went downstairs for breakfast. Their housekeeper, Margaret was laying the table when she looked at Sylvia and sighed. “Aren’t you all dolled up for Christmas!” Margaret exclaimed while giving Sylvia a warm hug. She felt pitiful for the little girl…Sylvia spent Christmas without her parents, although she was a bit too young she managed to spend the day without thinking of her parents. But she went to bed with an aching heart..

Years went by and Sylvia blossomed into a charming 16 year old. Over the years she has spent a lot of time in her Grandpa’s library and had grown an interest towards adventure books. Her very first book was the one her parents’ had gotten her 7 years ago on the Christmas they had missed. She found forests very intriguing in these books and had grown a liking towards them. It was her birthday today and her parents were there for her this time.Sylvia had received many lovely gifts but there was one thing she wanted desperately, she wanted permission to go to the haunted forest of Imagitia. There had been rumours about the forest that if anyone ventured too deep into the forest they would disappear as if they faded. When she asked her parents if she could go they gave her a stern look and refused to let her go.

She was really angry and frustrated with her parents so she decided to sneak out that night and go to the forest. As it became darker outside, Sylvia felt more guilty but she was as stubborn as a mule and wasn’t going to budge that easily. As the clock struck 11 Sylvia tip-toed out of her room. Quiet as a mouse, she opened the front door and crept out. Imagitia was 10 miles away so decided to go on her bicycle. Sylvia reached the forest at the crack of dawn. Her brow was dripping with sweat. As tired as she was, Sylvia was proud of herself. She parked her bicycle outside the dark forest. As she ventured into the sea of darkness her heart was beating twice as fast. When was walking in the forest she could hear the branches crushing under her feet, she could also hear the gushing of a stream nearby. The deeper she ventured into the forest the more anxious she got.

Sylvia followed the sound of the stream and finally found it, she thought it was time to give a rest to her weary bones. She placed her back pack near the branch of a tree and went to freshen up in the stream. As she bent down to wash her face, a hand shot out of the stream and pulled her in with a strong force! A mysterious cloud of fog surrounded the stream…

Sylvia was never seen again, until….
