Had it not been that drizzling afternoon of the early monsoon of Calcutta [ yes ...speaking of a time when it was yet to be christened as Kolkata], today this story would not have figured on the pen. Wait ! why possibly on good earth do I need to tell this a STORY even! This was something that shaped my mind, my future, my conviction, and above all my self-respect... Few moments that still fuel this journey of my life whatsoever

A depressed young bloke, not successful in his engineering entrance examinations and with the toppings of the fact that his school-leaving examination was not as good as he expected to be due to certain health issues, among many others. That young lad certainly discovered a pensive world around him, parents with sulk face, teachers with taunting smiles, and most painfully "friends" with whom he wasted precious time of last two years got gravitated to their new-found aura of success.

It was indeed a tough time for him to get a hold of himself and putting life back on track, all that he needed was a little pat on the shoulder cheering him up to get him back to the field to get ready for the next chance ..but around him, there was hardly anyone simple to do that simple thing! He was walking down road one afternoon, nature wearing the same mood as the lad, little drizzling. He suddenly discovered he, without knowing has come to the ghetto where his favourite teacher used to take classes - a house on rent. The young pensive boy thought of going to him to discuss his sorry state and get some guidance about the coming days. He silently went inside and was about to enter the room but then only suddenly his own name came to his ears ..he gathered himself to overhear the sombre dialogue between two gents . One of them was his teacher with whom he came to find solace with he heard him saying to another person (also known to him) .His teacher with utter disgust was saying "this lad is finished ..I guarantee you his final bell has rung and be sure of the fact he can never turn back" . Such little but derogatory words , overheard , ripped the young heart which was already bearing the scar of consequences of past few days . Without making his presence felt , he walked out with tears in eyes and sat in a tea stall nearby . The young boy was at the edge ..for him every door was closed now .He was about to take a call to leave studies and do something dreadful perhaps .Suddenly the tears in eyes dried up and his jaws were hardened with intense passion to give a befitting reply to all , those who could not have faith in him , those who criticised him unmercifully . The young hero stood up , nothing less than that of a wounded tiger . On that very moment he decided , life is what we make of it ..so lets fight..Lets fight it like very last battle of survival .

He went home and worked very very hard to crack the exam with flying colours next time . As expected , all the coulourful things in his life , including friends and family were beside him with smiling faces this time .He , deep inside , got a lesson that day that when there in no SUN even your shadow leaves you !

Today that young boy has turned out matured , working in a MNC in a high chair and was walking down that same street which saw his revival from ash that afternoon. He met that very teacher , with whom he went to meet that day .After so many years , the teacher identified him and asked "how are you my boy? I hear from your friends you are doing well these days !" The man , in his mid thirties , our hero of the story , bowed down and touched the feet of his teacher and replied "its all because of your sir .without you I could not possibly come out of the biggest cesspool that my career got into that time" .The teacher was astonished since as far his remembrance goes , that boy did not turn up after his failure of first term and with time he went to obvious oblivion .The teacher raised an eyebrow and said " is it ? how did I help you dear? You didnt even come to me before you cracked the exam , I remember " .The boy, now a man in thirties smiled and said I went for help that day to you and overheard you saying that I am finished. Had I not heard it that day I would not have gathered enough courage to go for the biggest battle of my life, Sir .some times rejections in life confirms affection in another form. Thanks a lot for that afternoon, you are the one who made the warrior within me awake, you are the one whose words kept me motivated for that entire year. whenever I felt tired studying and my mind was about to distract, your voice used to ring up in my ear .." he is finished".Without that voice in my ear, I could not possibly sail this far sir . I am indebted to you "

The teacher was silent, he was speechless in agony and guilt ....He nodded and said " you taught me today indeed, how should a teacher stand beside a student in bad times, I failed you ....forgive me, son "!

That man bowed down again and greeted with exchanging numbers to be in touch in the coming days!

Perhaps by now, needless to say, who that little boy was of that day !!

I won't forget that afternoon till I close my eyes finally in grave .even today when I am in distress and losing nerve in despair, I close eyes to see that young boy drenched in the drizzle, standing up ..gearing for a new battle of survival ..where winning is ONLY option!
