Adventures Of Mahek

Once a girl named Mahek lived in a small cottage with her parents (in Punjab). They lived in the middle of the woods. As they were poor, her parents went and earned for their livelihood. They collected abundant firewood, kept some for their house and sold the remaining in the market. From these earnings, her mother had enough to buy food for 2 days. Mahek saved some amount every day from what her mother gave her. There was a stream beside her house which had potable water. She loved to play and roam around her house and drink the sweet gushing water. She did not like creepy-crawlies. After a few days, as her parents were out collecting firewood, she thought of strolling on a nearby hill. When she reached the foot of the hill, she saw something glittering, she went there and picked it up. To her surprise, she found a diamond. She took it and started off back home to tell her parents about it, but the journey back home was not easy.

She met 3 burglars. One of them said, “You little girl! What are you going to do with this precious gem?? This is the only remaining ingredient which I need for my special powers”. Mahek knew that, the person would use those powers for robberies, dacoits and other bad things as he was a burglar. So, she confidently said, “No, I will not give this to you”. The man was red with rage. “What nonsense are you talking about?”, said the second one. “This is the only diamond which I need to complete my set of five diamonds.” As Mahek did not want to give that special and extraordinary diamond to those thieves, she nodded in disagreement. The third one said,” I want to build a bungalow for myself with the money that I will get by selling this diamond.

Before those people could say anything else, Mahek shouted, “I will never give this thing to you because I have found it. The 3 people suddenly realized that there were some locals working in the field and Mahek had shouted. So, the men were astonished and scared because if the locals heard her shouting they would understand that something was wrong. They told each other that they would be beaten and will be in great danger if those locals noticed them. So they ran off hurriedly. Then Mahek walked home happily.

When she reached home famished, her mother was ready with 2 hot and yummy makke-di-rotis. Mahek while eating told the whole story to her mother which had already turned into an adventure.

The next day when her father got the news, he came back home joyfully. After a few days, they sold the diamond for a good amount and made money. They were rich now and bought a huge and new mansion. They moved there from their small hut and had proper education, jobs and luxuries.
