There lived a twelve-year-old boy named Matthew. He used to have a hard time making friends for he was shy. Matthew had moved to Belgium along with his sister, parents and grandparents from New York. The family had settled in pretty quickly. Five days after their shift, Matthew started going to school with his sister. On the ninth day, he got bullied. More specifically, he was beaten up. The reason was that the kids who bullied Matthew were one of the smartest kids in the school. They had gone cuckoo after they saw the new student answer some of the most difficult questions. This side of the students had not been seen by anyone.

Matthew reported them to the principal, who have them two hours of detention.

Matthew arrived home that day and caught his mother’s attention. His face was red, so were his hands, his eyes were purple. He had a gloomy look. His mother saw that and came running to him immediately. Matthew narrated the whole incident to her. His mother hugged Matthew, and told his that all would be ok. She told him that bullies loved to pick on new students. She told his that it would take some time to get used to the school. Matthew hugged his mother once again.

That night, Matthew slept, knowing that it would take some time to adjust to the new school.

The next morning, Matthew’s injuries had magically disappeared even though his mother had told him that the ointment she applied would take a few days to heal his body. Matthew was very happy. He went to school in a better mood than before.

In the afternoon, it was time for P.E . Matthew was a good football player. The students were playing football. While playing, Matthew’s teammates believed that though Matthew was new, he looked like a great football player. Suring the match, Matthew’s team scored a lot of goals, most of them being scored by Matthew, and Matthew’s team won! At the end of the match, the boy’s team lifted him in the air! Matthew was overflowing with joy. That day, Matthew came home, and told his mom about everything. His mother too was very happy.

From the next day onwards, Matthew would go to school life any normal person. He would have a great time as he started to learn how to make friends.

In a few weeks, he made a best friend. Lewis was the boy’s name. Lewis was a very kind-hearted person.

One day, Matthew and Lewis were talking, when they got into a small argument. Both had different views on the topic. Matthew was continuously saying that he was right and Lewis was wrong, Lewis kept saying that neither of them were right or wrong, and that having different views on a topic is okay. But, Matthew wasn’t one to listen. He did not like that Lewis had a different opinion. This angered him. From that day on, Matthew stopped meeting Lewis. He would avoid him any way he could, and wouldn’t even make eye contact with him.

Matthew had a habit of reading after coming back home from school. One day, he came home, changed into much comfortable clothes, laid on his bed, and opened a book, titles “Friendship”. The story was about a boy who had gotten into a small argument with his friends and refused to see him what soever. As Matthew continued reading, he started to realize that the situation with the boy in the book was the same situation as his. He realized that a life without a close friend, is like a house without a roof ; incomplete.

That very evening, Matthew rushed to Lewis’ house. He rang the doorbell as fast as he could. When Lewis opened the door, Matthew hugged him the would you would squeeze a lemon; hard. He burst into tears and said, “Lewis… I’m sorry. I knew I should have just agreed to two people having different opinion. Please forgive me. I’m sorry.” “It’s ok. Mistakes happen. But it’s our job to correct them.”

“You know Lewis, best friends are like four-leaf clovers. Hard to find and lucky to have.”
