True Friend
True Friend
I was sitting quietly under the coconut tree
Enjoying the scenery greeney and cool breeze
Suddenly..! It sounded like a thunder
At once I jumped in fear and wonder
It fell like a bomb shell beside me
Oh.! Dried coconut palm leaf from the coconut tree.
Which once gave me shelter and shade
Fell helter-skelter now silent and dead
I remember all those days
When you served in many different ways
Oh..! Coconut tree you are my true friend
You were there when I was sick and in need
You gave me tender coconuts and quenched my thirst
Very sweet healthy and refreshing drink
You grew up silently without any attention
Feeding us expecting nothing in return
Coconut fruit for delicious cuisine
Outer shell dried leaves as burning fuel
Dried kernels for oil extraction
Residue meal for animal nutrition
Hard shells and coir useful too
In Ropes mats and craft to do
Your alm leaves large and beautiful
Useful in fence roofs and thatching
Now your dead leaf will rest in storeroom
Then transform into useful broom
You served in all possible ways
I thank you my dear friend for everything that you gave
All parts of yours useful while alive and dead
You taught me how to live
Oh..my dear friend
I know after death... I can't even be a broom
