The Brave Hunter
The Brave Hunter
The brave hunter settled down to regale
A group of kids circled with mouth agape
His tales of bravery and wild courage
In a civilized world, his tales savage
Enthralled the boys listened, their attention caught
It was an adventure, they dreamed of and sought
He recounted a time of capturing a creature vile
A buck toothed and dangerous crocodile
The way he charged into the water where it lay
To trap and seize the predator, which was now his prey
As it thrashed and lashed in the terrible fight
The way the hunter prevailed and bound him tight
At this moment, a sudden noise raspy and evil
Boomed from behind and up jumped the daring daredevil
Scampering he hid quick behind a tree
Shivering with fright, his charges running free
After the initial shock settled and silence reigned in the woods
He dared a little peek from where he shakily stood
And he found his enamored group huddled around
Marveling at some creature on the ground
The one that had made the sound that terrified the mighty hunter
Curious and miffed, out came the lofty narrator
To study this object that made him leave his tall tales untold
Down there sat looking up at him, an innocent toad
