The Age of Innocence

The Age of Innocence

2 mins

Under the blurred blue skies,

The four vulnerable souls met.

Even during the foggy rains,

Our dresses heavy, cold and wet

Where is that Age of Innocence gone now?

Silly games, silly fights and silly reasons to cry,

Silly agendas, childish excuses like ‘first ball was just a try’,

Getting hurt on the toes and shouting ‘Aaai aaai’,

Where is that high demand for the tap water gone by?

Where is that Age of Innocence gone now and Why?

When having a crush on Juhi Chawla was no less than crime,

You wouldn’t get jailed for it but blackmailed for a long period of time,

As if mom would have taken such a complaint by those innocent souls seriously,

But our vulnerable brains couldn’t think otherwise;

Such was the Age of Innocence at that time.

Waiting for the heavy rain to stop,

Mom assembling in the balcony that outdated old and dirty mop

Distracting ourselves with Pokemon, Digimon until the electricity vanishes off

Then calling each other on the telephone while waiting for the moon to pop

What has that Age of Innocence transformed to?

Divided by the propagandas that evolved

Hated because of the ideologies that aren’t any more genuine aka default

Sidelined by the ‘freedom of speech’ frontiers

Irony went undetected by these same rioters

Will that Age of Innocence ever come back?

Divided not by locations but ideologies and religious connections

No more ‘Kaisa hai? Kahan hai?’ on social networks

Because they are filled with provocative posts to increase your arterial tensions

Better bring back Orkut which under its grave organizing feasts and celebrations,

‘Thank God, we lasted only till that Age of Innocence’.

The Internet which in the late 2000s brought us all back together,

The same internet today is prohibiting us from being together,

No, not the internet, it was humans who destroyed that bond,

Which was once tension-free, secure, and strong;

Such a disastrous farewell to The Age of Innocence.
