Rewrite Our Future
Rewrite Our Future
I am a child of your time,
But I must live in the future you leave for us.
I am tomorrow's idea maker,
And I live by the thoughts you created.
Remember, I am a child of your time,
But not to live in the future you leave for us.
Where are the trees I heard about from books and stories?
Did you kill them for your selfishness?
Remember, I am a child of your time,
But I must live here without a green world around me.
Where are the rivers I met in stories at school?
Did you drink them up, never to flow again?
Remember, I am a child of your time,
But I must live in a dry land with no drops to drink.
Where is the clean earth I learned about in my books?
Did you turn it into a hell with rubbish all around?
Remember, I am a child of your time,
But I must live on a planet you polluted without thought.
Bring back the pleasant green sights you once enjoyed.
Give the clean planet back to us to live—it's our right.
We too want to enjoy the beauty of running rivers.
Remember, the earth belongs to us too.
I am a child of the stories you write,
And I don’t want to be a puppet tied to the strings you pull.
It’s time to rewrite them, not for you,
But for us—the future that will care for this planet.
