Shouldn’t have left your hand

Even for a while.

Shouldn’t have left you

Even in jest.

Shouldn’t have left you alone

Even to make you stronger;

Shouldn’t have left your side

Even to bring out your best.

While I grapple with the truth

That never was.

While I grapple with the truth

That could have been.

While I grapple in the darkness

That surrounds me now;

While I stumble headlong into

That sorrow unforeseen.

The sorrow that was yours

Is mine now.

That sorrow that was your’s

Is here to stay.

The sorrow that was yours,

Empties out my life;

The sorrow that was yours

Leaves my world in dismay.
