When the tricolor covers my body

And the badges cover my chest with pride,

When I lay fast asleep in my coffin

Unable to hear my children cry;

Remember that I was a soldier who carried the responsibility of holding my Nation's pride.

I set myself into flames,

Scattered my ashes just to see an Independence Day;

Bullets fired on me had begun to penetrate!

But I chose to sacrifice my life rather than seeing my nation being captivated.

My fellow mates and I stayed awake, armoured for a fight.

So that all of you safely sleep with your families at night.

We didn't fear enemies nor did we care for our lives !

Just in case if I don't return;

Do convey my regards to my parents,children and the love of my life.

I'm not sure if I have been a good father, husband or son in this life.

I apologize for all those sacrifices that you'll have to do for my selfless choice;

But trust me, your support, love, and belief are the only reasons which gave me the ability to fight.

Grenades and machine guns were my new friends at my work site.

They too knew that somewhere we wanted to spend a longer family time;

Being an officer it was really difficult at times,

But there was immense of satisfaction and pleasure in serving my country and in saving millions of lives.

Indian Army is not just a defense unit of our country!

Its a ray of hope which sways in millions of eyes.

It inculcates discipline, strength, and dedication in all those;

Who choose it to be a part of their lives.

We don't need praises and applauds for our victory in the fight.

We just need our nation to be safe and happy even after our demise!

Candles and campaigns are surely soothing but for a momentary time;

We need more youth who can take up the responsibility of holding our nation's prestige for a Lifetime.
