Jagannath-Puri

Here was I awake, alone

In front of the horizon-sun...

My whole life rising and ebbing away.

It is a tranquil sea now,

The storms passed, mud-homes

Washed away...

A pearl, some shells

Strewn across the damp earth

Waits to be taken in.

The dew damp sand,

Soaked in yesterday’s carnival;

Hoof-marks, ploughed tea-cups,

Nut-shells, bits and shits

Lay spattered for judgement.

Tiny crabs like lost souls

Busting out of the carcass

Makes it towards the sea...
