In The Kitchen

The gurgle of the drain

While the vegetables are washed,

The thudding of knives

While the potatoes are sliced.

The sizzling of the frying pan

When the onions touch it,

The whirring of the exhaust fan

When the spicy air rises.

The scraping of the spatula

While spreading the paste,

The beeping of the microwave

When the food is cooked.

The clinking of plates

While the food is served,

The squeaking of chairs

When everyone sits down.

The rumble of my tummy

While I smell the tangy aroma,

The munching of my mouth

After I hear the kitchen sounds.
