Fading Embers of a Former Flame

Fading Embers of a Former Flame

A bond once strong, forged in shared past times,

Now dwindles slow, like dying rhymes.

I invested heart, with depth and might,

But received in return, a fading light.

Steps grew distant, voice grew cold,

My counsel spurned, my heart grown old.

Shadows I warned against were embraced,

Surrounded by new intents, a different pace.

Memories of laughter, tears, and nights,

Now taunt my soul, like fading lights.

You knew my pulse, my every desire,

Yet chose to ignore, my heart's deepest fire.

Comparison's sting, a poisoned dart,

Indirectly aimed, straight at my heart.

"I have no one" – words that cut so deep,

Implying I failed, in our bond to keep.

Guards up high, yet still I bled,

Adjusting to your rhythm, my heart misled.

No more – self-preservation calls,

Distance beckons, before deeper falls.

The real me hides no more – I'll withdraw,

Letting go of what we had, to save my heart's raw.

No effort left, to rekindle or mend,

Only acceptance – our bond will slowly end.

Sadness is natural – invested deeply in this heart,

Mourning the loss of the person from the start,

Losing the bond – or the connection we once had as part.
