Dense Monsoon Rain
Dense Monsoon Rain
Dense Monsoon Rain
Oh, Queen of Rains!
Come with your pitter-patter,
Offering the monsoon a taste of hail.
Trembling with restlessness,
Flashing with roaring thunder,
Rolling gently across the quiet sky.
Feeding the thirsty Chataka bird
With your drop of nectar,
Adorning our enchanting city of Cuttack.
Every inch of your body is a fountain of light,
Your braided hair holds the domain of dark clouds.
Your dense tresses are streams of pouring rain,
Your body adorns a captivating necklace of pearls
Forged from the path of the sky.
At your radiant sight, the whole Earth stands spellbound.
You are the one who gives life through water,
Filling our body and soul with sheer delight.
You are the apple of King Indra's eye,
Oh Mother, Queen of Rains!
You are not just a giver of life,
You are the companion and jewel of our Mother Earth.
Step forward, Oh Royal Mother, without hesitation,
Unbind your hair without distraction.
We will find contentment eating your food
And drinking a drop of spiced Torani (fermented rice water).
Do not pour down torrents of excessive rain, Oh Queen,
For elders warn that it can bring devastation
When rivers and streams unleash their wrath
Upon human civilization.
Yet, do not grant too little water to Mother Earth either,
Lest her offspring—plants and living beings—suffer in pain,
Remaining hungry and thirsty due to water scarcity
Across towns and barren landscapes.
Never bring along the fierce wind,
Destructive storms, tornadoes, or terrifying ocean waves.
May your unruly, prolonged absence
Never inflict a crop-destroying drought
That tortures people and dismantles society.
The frogs and snakes are your dependents, Oh Rain Queen;
Down the ages, they dedicate themselves
To breeding during the monsoon season.
They are the protectors of flora and fauna,
Maintaining ecological balance for the welfare of humanity.
Oh Mother Rain!
You are the guardian of all existence—
earthly, immovable, movable, women, men, and vegetation.
Keep arriving throughout life's journey
Alongside your King of the Sky,
Warmly embraced, until the ultimate deluge (Mahapralaya).
