A New Start

Another year from my life gone,

Didn’t think I’d make it this far.

Hearing I was, song of the swan,

How did I get through this year bizarre?

Atrocities, a hundred, were committed,

By this ruthless year alone.

For all of his crimes, he was acquitted,

Stifling, he was, everyone’s moan.

“With a new year, comes a new start”,

I have often been told.

But this year, my whole life fell apart,

Why to purchase a fool’s gold?

No expectations, all hopes are lost,

No magic can make us start anew.

Bridges are burned and crossed,

Now here I write this, feeling blue.

At this beginning, we make a resolution,

But how long do they even last,

Not even completing one revolution,

We all give up on them so fast.

The glass, for me, will always be half empty,

No amount of water will make it full.

Despite having a vision twenty twenty,

It was nothing but a handful.

I will sit back and watch the world burn,

As the dogs eat the other dogs.

We are at a point of no return,

Continuously throwing in more and more logs.

“Happy new year”, I will say happily,

But my heart and eyes are dead.

I will speak of my love for my family,

In solitary afterwards, tears will be shed.
