Re-imagining The Rebirth
Re-imagining The Rebirth
Doctor: We are helpless and sorry for your son. He has only a few days left in his life. Here are
the reports. You may take him from the hospital.
Mother: Doctor..!! What happened. Please don't tell that. He was always audacious and
ebullient. What happened suddenly to him?
Doctor: Your son has been stricken by a high break-bone viral fever. It is one of the most
dangerous diseases by name Dengue. The count of the platelets in his body has been reduced
drastically from 2,50,000 to 25,000. We have nothing to do at the last moment. But, I can refer
to another doctor in Apollo. It is just a ray of hope.
This was the exact conversation happened between my mother and a doctor on 21st October 2013 in a well-reputed hospital. Like most of the Mechanical Engineering students, who wish to prepare the entire syllabus overnight before the exam, I am ready to attack the Refregiration and Air Conditioning book just a day before my exam with a strong belief in myself that I can complete everything.
Suddenly, the formulae in the book started jumbling and my mind was out of consciousness. The
temperature of my body suddenly raised and a great agony turned my muscles pale. Dengue consigned me to hospital bed for a week with raging body temperature, agonizing limb pains, regular dizziness that turned the disease its sobriquet "Break-Bone Fever". I became strengthless and demotivated. I was puzzled thinking that if I couldn't see success in my life. The count of the platelets was not increasing despite heavy m dication. Doctors informed my parents to have less hope for me.
I was one of the bright students in college always with a passion to achieve something. It was a placement time and my situation was becoming worse day by day. But I have a belief till date that "Our reality is a reflection of our strong belief." On the second day in the hospital, I stopped thinking and started learning the experiences.
I was encountered with my first emotion- Absolute fear. Heart thumping, Gut-wrenching, knees buckling with saline injections. It was the
fear of unknown things happening around me.
This fear subsided me when I moved to another emotion- Embarrassment. The ward in
which I was admitted is filled with elder patients who have seen the entire world. I was the
only young child admitted to the ward. People started staring at me. One person lying beside
my bed said, "Belief in yourself. Be strong. Just allow your fate to do what it can."
The transmission of blood platelets to another is one of the tedious tasks. It is a similar toa dialysis process wherein the platelets will be extracted from the blood through different stages and the blood will be sent back to the donor through repeating cycle.
The third day took me to a third emotion- Elation. Fortunately, one of my classmates Bhaskar has
donated the platelets to me through that hectic process. Doctors were shocked to
know that the count of platelets has raised drastically to 3,00,00 in a single day.
Doctor: Hey Pavan, Some miracle happened in your life. In my experience of 8 years in medicine, you are the only patient who could recover with the platelets count in a single day.
That's Great..!!
The fifth day of my hospital was a medication day and suddenly I was informed that I have a
placement drive in college the next day. With greater reluctance and uneasiness, I started to college and attended the placement.
The fourth emotion which I encountered was Pride. I was selected in campus drive and that too in a top-notch MNC like TCS. I was awarded with TCS Best Student of the Year in the district level nominations after the discharge from hospital. I was extremely proud of myself. Rather than the achievement in drive, I was very happy as I could overcome the first two emotions.
Today I have reimagined my rebirth with a strong belief in myself that everyone can achieve anything if they are strong with their will power. Everyone believes in something – religion, love at first sight, fate, marriage, destiny, gods, ghosts, etc. For many, these beliefs make up a large part of their lives.
I was reborn by reimagining with a great belief that, challenges make people strong and those are just the showstoppers in the journey of life.
I was reborn by reimagining with a belief in individualism.
I was reborn by reimagining to learn, meliorate and develop myself.
I was reborn by reimagining with a great belief in myself and grow as an individual.
When we step outside the comfort zone and greeted with fear and embarrassment, I am sure that elation and pride are on the other side waiting for us.
Every single day I whisper to myself, “Self-reliance, self-reliance, self-reliance,” usually multiple times a day.
Are you all ready to take up fear and embarrassment and wait for elation and pride?
