The Zapped Cats

Tito shot out of the trash can like a missile launched from earth. To no one's surprise he landed on his four paws. 

"Meeoooooow" he cried and tried to get hold of his tail. His friends Pepito and Ludo had their tails pointing to the sky and their pupils narrow with fear.

"Tito! What the fur? Asked Pepito

"Ooow, ooow something bit my tail." He answered while going round and round in circles.

"Stop! You are making me dizzy" begged Ludo.

Suddenly they heard loud noises of drums and Shehnai. They trotted towards it. 

"Humans." They shrieked together. 

Ludo jumped on Tito to have a better look. Both of them ended up in a ball, rolling and fighting. Meanwhile Pepito sniffed the delicious aroma of food that came from the walking and dancing humans.

"Stop fighting like kittens." She said, " I smell food, let's follow the humans." They stopped rolling immediately and looked at Pepito walking away from them. They scurried along the street, afraid that humans might spot them.

They came upon a place between two houses by the street. They were decorated with beautiful lights and colourful bunting. Their eyes sparkled but their stomach growled with hunger. 

"Pepito, do you smell any food?" asked Ludo.

"Yes, follow my nose." she said taking the lead.

Both of them guffawed. They crept behind the house and saw a huge man speaking on the phone. Tito retreated, Ludo was unsure but Pepito marched ahead slyly. Ludo followed her and Tito hurried after them. Right then the human shoe came crashing on Tito's tail. 

"Meeoooooow" he yelped. The man side stepped quickly. Tito ran on the staircase, climbed two stairs at a time and reached the terrace leaving the other two behind. Pepito giggled as she saw Tito nursing his tail. They were on the terrace of the house. By far they could not see any food. Both boys turned to glare at Pepito.

"I almost crushed my tail for no food?" Tito complained.

"Oh! Get a useful nose Tito." Pepito scolded.

"I smell food but I cannot see it" Ludo sniffed and sniffed till he climbed the terrace wall. The other two sat next to Ludo and looked at the streaming lights ahead of them. Beyond that they saw and smelled food in huge containers. Also that there were two humans manning them.

"Now what?" Tito scowled.

"I have a plan." Declared Pepito as she licked her paws. "We balance ourselves, walk on these ropes and finally reach the food."

"Balance and walk?" they laughed.

"Yes, don't tell me you guys are not cat enough to do it? She snapped. 

"Yes of course we can, we were worried about you." Answered Ludo and Tito nodded. They slowly balanced themselves on the wires and ropes.

"Don't look down." Pepito instructed. But Ludo did and he started shivering on all his fours. He put his shivering foots ahead and swung. It had a ripple effect on the other two. The electric wires were stretched with the weights of these cats.Tito tried to move ahead quickly when he was zapped and his fur blew up looking extremely ridiculous. "Oooow" he cried out.

It hit Pepito and Ludo at the same time and their fur burnt a little. They looked like three zapped cat statues with the lights switching on and off.

Pepito recovered and shouted orders at Tito and Ludo to move ahead. But they crawled slowly, each time zapped a little by the switching on and off bulbs. If one could see their eyes now, they won't find any pupils just blank eyes. Trembling they reached the wall and they felt their body get stiff.

"I… I can s...smmell ...y.. your furrrr." Stammered Ludo.

"Youuuu aare.. s..smelli..ng yourselfff...." Said Tito laughing a little.

They jumped on the terrace floor. They were all consumed with the smell of food. They sauntered cautiously trying to be invisible towards the raw chicken pieces kept at a corner. Tito almost bit into the chicken leg when a human screamed, "Hey,... Look at the cats." 

Ludo jumped in the air, dug his teeth into the chicken piece and ran. He ran across the streaming lights towards the other terrace. Tito and Pepito looked at each other and saw two humans running towards them. They each quickly caught a piece of chicken and followed Ludo at the same speed.

Humans looked at them in disbelief and have been rumoured to have seen the cats skeleton along with the chicken bone when they got the electric shock. The lights fused shut, left the celebrations into darkness and humans all confused.

The cats reached the other end alive and with their prize. They found a corner and licked their stunned and burnt fur. 

"Tito, don't grab my chicken." Roared Pepito with her eyes glowing in the dark.

"Did I now?" Winked Tito to Ludo in mischief.

They laughed aloud and pounced on to their prized chicken pieces. They swore never to again run on electric ropes.
