The Stolen Wells

Once King Krishnadeva Raya ordered the Prime Minister to construct number of wells in the city and villages of kingdom. He was given enough money for this work. Few months later, the king went to the city to see how well the work was done and felt satisfied.

One day some villagers came to Tenali and complained that their villages still do have any well. Tenali thought of a plan and asked them to come to the court next morning. when the villagers came to the court in the morning, Tenali said to the king, '' Your Majesty, the wells in their villages has been stolen.'' The king was amused and said,'' How can anybody steal the well ?'' On this one of the villagers said,'' Your Majesty, the wells build by the minister are not there anymore. You may come along and see.'' Then, the king, the Prime Minister and Tenali went with the villagers to find the truth. There wasn't any well in the villages. Actually, the Prime Minister had ordered just few wells in the city to show the king and kept rest of the money with him. Now, the king understood the entire story that the wells were never constructed in those villages. He shouted a the Prime Minister and ordered him to build a hundred more wells at his own expense.
