Once upon a time, there was a brahmin who would daily go to the nearby river to perform his pooja. On a day like that, a hawk clinging a baby mouse in its claws was passing by. Suddenly, the mouse slipped from its claws and fell on the brahmin's lap. The brahmin then completed his pooja and opened his eyes. He was surprised to see the little mouse in his lap. He thought of throwing it away, but, seeing the mouse wounded, the brahmin felt pity for it. as he was a brahmin and prayed god, he had magical powers. So, he used one of the powers to change the baby mouse into a baby girl. He took the little girl home and told his wife everything that happened. The wife was happy to hear this. But no matter how nicely she tried to bring her up, her habits and behaviour were like a mouse.

A few years passed, and the girl grew up to be a beautiful lady. her mother decided to get her married to the most powerful being on earth. She thought that the sun god was perfect as it provided light throughout the world. So she asked her daughter if she wanted to marry the sun god. but she replied that the sun is too bright and that it burns her skin. So the sun told the mother that the rain was the most powerful being on earth as it provides water to the crops, plants, birds, trees and many others. So the mother asked her daughter if she wanted to marry the rain god. But she said that the lightning that the rain god makes is too noisy and hurts her ears. So the rain god told the mother to go to the wind god, as it is very strong and could carry away anything.

But even for that, the daughter said that it was always moving and could not be still. So, the wind advised the mother to go to the mountain god as it stays in one place and can stop even him. So both of them went to the mountain god. The mother asked her the same question, but the daughter complained that the mountain god was too rough and hard to touch. So the mountain god advised the mother for her daughter to marry the mouse, as it can dig holes even into its strong and hard body. At that, the daughter blushed and told her mother that she wanted to marry the mouse. She also told her mother to call the sage, [which was the father]. She told her father 'father, I want to marry this mouse. but for that, you will have to turn me back into a mouse. With tears in his eyes, the sage accepted and turned his daughter back into a mouse. The two mice were married and lived happily ever after.
