The Golden King

Once upon a time, there was a king named Midas. Though he had lot of wealth, he was still very greedy to accumulate more wealth. So he raised the taxes on the people which became the primary source of his wealth. While the king enjoyed lavishly in his castle, the people of this country suffered with poverty. 

One day he started counting all of his gold coins when all of a sudden a fairy appeared before him and said that the king could have any one of his wishes granted. The king thought for a little while and said that he wanted his entire kingdom to be made up of pure gold. The fairy chanted a few mysterious words, waved her wand and then disappeared into thin air. This left the king puzzled for a few seconds. He wasn't sure if his wish had been fulfilled or not. 

So he went out in his balcony to see if Kingdom had turned into gold but alas, nothing happened. The king was disappointed but when he saw the railing it had turned into gold immediately. The king was so excited he started touching everything he wanted to be in gold. After all the running and touching, he got very hungry so he decided to eat something but the moment he touched the fruits they turned into solid gold and almost broke his teeth. The king started panicking and walking frantically with hunger. He constantly prayed for his touch to end and when the fairy thought he had learnt his lesson the fairy took away his golden touch and everything he had converted into gold was back to normal once more.
