When I was a child my grandmother recited many stories. This one of her stories. This is from a small village which is situated in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. There lived two women named Leela and Jaya.

Leela was poor and had a small house while Jaya was rich and possessed a big house. Jaya was jealous of Leela. She always kept a watch on Leela.

One day Leela was working in her house. When she saw that strong winds were blowing, she recalled that she had placed the clothes for drying under the Sun. Leela ran out of the house and started collecting the clothes. When she was removing the blanket, the blanket flew off. She had only one blanket in her home and she couldn't lose it. So she started running behind the blanket.

Jaya was happy seeing Leela stressed. Leela was running behind the blanket and had even crossed the village. She suddenly tripped over a stone. Injured Leela called the Goddess of winds and started crying, "Ohh goddess of winds please help me I have only one blanket. Please help me find it.".

Then suddenly the goddess of the wind appeared in front of her and said, "Daughter! I will return you your blanket but for that you will have to choose one from the three boxes. One of them will have your blanket in it."

Leela went near the chest and she lifted the biggest chest and then again placed it back. Then she picked and again placed it back. Finally, she lifted the smallest one. Then the goddess of wind said, Okay daughter you an take this treasure chest to your home and open it there."

Leela thanked the goddess and started her journey towards home. Jaya saw her with the treasure chest. Leela returned to her home and saw that the treasure chest had her blanket as well as a brick of gold in it. After seeing this she was very happy.

On seeing this Jaya was burning with jealousy.

Jaya thought of a plan. She flew her blanket herself and started saying "Goddess of wind please return my blanket. The Goddess appeared and said the same thing she had told Leela. Jaya lifted the biggest chest and started walking towards her home. To her surprise, she had found her blanket but with a normal brick. She was crying out of jealousy.

Moral of the story - We should not be greedy. And stay happy with whatever we have.
